you can never go back

friends you think are friends won't always be your friends. they won't always be there to support you when times have passed. people change, their paths change, and their connectedness to other people changes, too.

even if you make some really great memories in a house like ours used to be, you can go back to those places in your mind, but you can't go back to them in the present.

i spent my formative years with a lot of you. i've gone through some serious changes and transitions in my life and in some way have felt i have kept a piece of each of my friends from monterey in my chest pocket during all these years. recently i've come to figure out that i'm pretty alone in the importance i have placed on these relationships.

i'm not happy, i'm not sad. it's life. there's a path ahead of us, and a path behind us. it's better to walk forward with a smile than to look back with sadness.

i'm going to periodically ask that question until she responds to the invite i sent her, that way she'll feel famous once she joins. :)
